paris fashion week day 3: At Issey Miyake

I have to hand it to Issey Miyake, his show today helped a great deal pulling me out of my paris fashion week frustration. Taking inspiration from the amazon jungle, the japanese designer impressed by taking light, water, earth, wind and translating that into clothing. voila your spring summer 09. click on the slideshow below to see impressions of the show.

paris fashion week day 2

today was my first day of paris fashion week and so far i am unimpressed. it's all business, little to no fun. people are dead serious and i am perfectly unamused over the attiude of some PR's here. 7 days to go. 7 days in which things can only get better, i should hope. on a bright note, here's some pretty people attending fashion week.

parisians in london

today is the first day of paris fashion week and from tomorrow you will be able to see all about who wore what on glamcanyon. until then, here's 2 folks from paris who hung out in in the streets of east london these past days.

all about pants (aka trousers)

my personal style could be broadly described as fairly retro. i'm not a hardcore hair-curling, tattoo-wearing, fleamarket-roaming rockabilly, but i like my pencil skirts and a decent red lipstick. now the emphasis here is skirt, because yes, it's true, i only wear skirts. i don't actually own pants, believe it or not. however i find it most refreshing to find gals like the ones below who manage to look their retroness all the while wearing pants. nice.

big on top...

...tight(s) on the bottom.

a serious fall/winter trend i spy in the streets of london are girls wearing massive sweaters/jackets/shirts paired with skirts so mini you can only guess their existence underneath the layers of clothes covering their upper bodies. hot.

boys, here's an option for you not to miss out on this trend. get them skinny jeans out, ask your grandpa for his favorite sweater and you're ready to roll.

those dancing days in london

look who i ran into while vintage-shopping in shoreditch - it's those dancing days - coolest girl-band evurrr. so cool in fact that i used their fun-song 'dischoe' for my sony rolly video a few months ago. they're playing tomorrow at camden barfly - y'all should go!

and how lovely they looked...

london fashion week parties: FashOff

friday was the last day of london fashion week which ended gloriously at beach blanket babylon in shoreditch where Daniel Lismore hosted FashOff, a soiree for the glamourous and the beautiful, the up-dressers and the get-downers. i went to document the fashion madness.

london fashion week parties: Feathers

i can not decide what i love most about fashion week: the goody bags or the parties. goody bags this year have left me with a cool PPQ bag, some Linda Farrow sunglasses and lots of much needed beauty products. parties on the other hand dish out masses of champagne and martinis, delicious finger foods and plenty of starsighting. in the case of feathers i did not have to decide for the party provided both a fabulous goody bag and a perfect open bar menu. Feathers is a store selling amazing mixed designer ware and has been around for 40 years which called for appropriate celebrations. Feathers is located in 42 Hans Crescent, Knightsbridge, London.

inbar spector s/s 09

frankly i had never heard of inbar spector, although in fashion language i'd probably say "oh, i wonder what they come up with this season!" watching the show in a packed house i found out that "they" is actually a she and that her stuff is mad cool. below are not only 3 fashionable attendants of the show but also some snap shots from the first row.

ioannisdimitrousis at london fashion week

greek london-based designer ioannis dimitrousis has impressed the pants off me with his a/w 08 collection so i was exited to see what he'd come up with for spring/summer 09.

18.00: Afshin Feiz

Finally i went to see the Afshin Feiz show and since the choice was either sitting in the last row (i got there late) or getting cozy with the other photographers at the end of the runway, i went for the last option and enjoyed a perfect view.

17.30: On/Off presents Oli

later today i went to a show at on/off in which Oli presented up and coming designers alexander koutny, mark fast and rozalb de mura. now Oli can invite me to any party the like because they have proven their generosity by putting this fabulous PPQ fusion purse into the goody bag. yey!

some randomly selected front-rowers... (ok, maybe not entirely randomly)

3pm: at LFW tent

stumbling out of the tube and into the tent i ran into this lady who was racing between shows. love the dress.

12.30: store opening at Kokon to Zai

after the morning shows we headed for the opening of this shop which -hurrah!- did not only offer freeflowing champagne, they also had a lovely buffet, just right for the fashion-hungry. Kokon tu Zai sell designer labels such as Vivienne Westwood, PPQ, Gareth Pugh and many others.

here i found her:

10.45: kaviar gauche show

i had hardly left the justin smith show when somebody waved me into the Kaviar Gauche one, a fashion label from germany that had made waves during berlin fashion week. i was a little dissapointed with the selection of models but the clothes were beautiful and had the romance factor of a jane austen novel.

click on the slideshow for a few glimpses from the second row.

london fashion week (day 3) - 9am: backstage at justin smith

so today was my first day at london fashion week after some half-hearted partying around last night. with my alarm set on 7 am i was meant to photograph the backstage of the justin smith show which was kinda fun, despite the early morning hour. justin makes wonderful hats of buttons, feathers and plastic and puts them on performers (and not models).

click on the slideshow below to check out the backstage photos as well as pictures of the fashion show.

..a beautiful visitor.

street fashion blogger gals

funny funny funny when 2 out of 5 girls i photographed in 5 days happen to be fellow street fashion bloggers! i swear they both were selected perfectly randomly and i knew of neither who there were before i popped the question if i could take their photo. looking at those two i have to say i'm in excellent company.

this is the lovely Saga from reykjaviklooks.blogspot.com who just moved to london for a degree in fashion photography. kind of an ideal subject for her since she obviously understands a lot about fashion and, take my word for it, photography.

another shining star on the street fashion blogging sky is Lotta here from youcatwalk.com. she's no longer an active blogger for her new jobs is taking up the better part of her time and motivation.

disco blood bath

disco blood bath last night at VISIONS could have had better music (as in much better music) but the crowd was pretty cool and since last night east london was as dead as britney spears's career it was by far our best bet. click on the photo to see folks and funs.

NUKE THEM ALL last saturday happened in a run-down warehouse space in hackney wick which reminded me a lot of berlin. i've always had a soft spot for this night and taking it to this spot was definately a winning idea. good times.
